Heather was diagnosed with a severe mental illness in 1995 and used her art-making as part of her path to regain her mental and emotional stability. She co-founded and co-created King's Courtyard Artists' Collective in York in 2012. She is currently an active artist/ member there and her artwork can be seen and purchased at the gallery.
She has experience working in many techniques and media, but has focused on what she terms "Angel Drawing", a form of creating she began at approximately the same time of the founding of KCAC. This style of drawing is a "mystical experience" for Bowser. She had been creating very detailed drawings before this creative art form appeared to her. Bowser found herself frustrated with how difficult the style she was working in with its strict attention to detail and she decided to give up drawing and art altogether. When she turned the completed paper page on which would be her "final drawing", a blank page of paper now sat on her drawing easel. She sat down and, as she looked at the paper,"lines of light" began to flash on the paper. Bowser soon picked a pen up and began to try to "document" what was appearing on the paper. It was the beginning of an art form and it evolved over time. Bowser is now excited when she goes to her drawing easel and 5 of her "Angel.Drawings" were purchased by the gift shop of the American Visionary Art Museum.
